Did you know that mixing bleach and ammonia could KILL you?

by Henry Zeller | Sep 24, 2012 | Chemicals, Did you know?

Did you know that mixing bleach and ammonia could kill you? It’s true. Bleach (sodium hypochlorite solution) and ammonia (ammonium hydroxide solution) react chemically to form CHLORAMINES and other irritating and toxic products. There are numerous incompatible chemicals that, if mixed, could cause serious injury or death. Another prime example is concentrated acids and alkalies. When mixed they generate heat, which can cause thermal burns and other injuries. As a rule, never mix any chemicals unless called for by label directions or as directed by a knowledgeable person. If you have any concerns about the incompatibilities of a chemical, refer to its Material Safety Data Sheet, which should list them. Above all, don’t play chemist. You could injure yourself or your coworkers.
